Agriculture Services
Supporting local farmers and landowners is essential for sustainable agriculture. We connect them with funding opportunities to implement effective conservation practices on their farms. Together, we can promote environmental stewardship while enhancing the productivity and resilience of our agricultural landscapes. Join us in making a positive impact on our community and environment.
Agriculture Viability Program
Farmers and producers operating within the Grays Harbor Conservation District (GHCD) are eligible for the technical and financial assistance services provided through our Agricultural Viability Program (AVP). These services increase the viability of agriculture by funding the development of individual stewardship plans and implementation of best management practices that increase operating efficiency on the farm while also restoring and enhancing our natural systems at a watershed scale.
All financial assistance provided by GHCD is at a rate up to 100%.
Voluntary Stewardship Program
The Voluntary Stewardship Program (VSP) is a service that Grays Harbor Conservation District offers to farmers and producers. VSP is an alternative approach for counties in Washington State to “promote plans to protect and enhance critical areas within the area where agricultural activities are conducted, while maintaining and improving the long -term viability of agriculture in the state of Washington and reducing the conversion of farmland to other uses” (RCW 36.70A.700(2)(a)). Instead of enacting further critical areas regulation for agricultural activities, VSP allows a technical assistance provider to work with agricultural operators to develop voluntary, site-specific stewardship plans. The Grays Harbor Conservation District is the technical service provider for Grays Harbor County.
The Voluntary Stewardship Program focuses on Voluntary engagement with agricultural landowners to protect critical areas, as defined by the Growth Management Act (RCW 36.70A):
Frequently Flooded Areas
Aquifer Recharge Areas
Geologically Hazardous Areas
Wetlands
Fish and Wildlife Habitat
