River Roots

In a countywide effort to restore riverbank health, the Grays Harbor Conservation District (GHCD) facilitated a partnership with the local Mount Olympus Brewery (MOB) and ultimately co-crafted a concept that would bring new pathways to public engagement and conservation to local watersheds. Supportive of local conservation initiatives, MOB was a natural partner for the conservation district to collaborate with on their community engagement goals. From the November 2023 release of the brewery’s “River Roots Pale Ale,” GHCD has committed to planting one tree for each beer sold, through their ongoing streambank and floodplain restoration project efforts. Powered by the district’s funding secured through the Washington State Conservation Commission’s Riparian Grant Program and collaborative conservation interests, this partnership gives the project community exposure and reaches audiences in new ways.
